Life is a journey that takes many roads. Our path to better health has had so many curves, hills, and valleys. We have researched, attended classes, and simply learned from those around us.
Eventually, our journey led us to the beautiful state of Virginia where we started growing our food, raising chickens, milking cows, and learning herbalism.

Many of you have asked questions about our products. This blog post is dedicated to answering those questions.

Our Elderberry Syrup
Making elderberry syrup is one of my favorite recipes for building the immune system and for fighting off colds and flu. It's made with elderberries, hibiscus flowers, rosehips, and local raw honey.
As a tonic it can be used to prevent the common cold. Take daily during the fall and winter seasons. During times of illness, take every two hours.
Elderberry syrup adds a punch of flavor to hot drinks. Pour a dash of syrup in your coffee or tea. You can also add to your morning juice or smoothie. Do you have a sweet tooth? Pour some syrup over your ice cream. It becomes a sweet and tart dessert. Add to your favorite breakfast food for a yummy flavor to your oatmeal, pancakes and even cereal.

Honey should never be given to a child under the age of one.
Honey Cough/Throat Syrup
Our soothing cough syrup if made with local raw honey, lemon thyme, marshmallow root and slippery elm bark. This homemade remedy can help calm your cough and sooth your sore throat.
Fire Cider Tonic
This is my husband's favorite go-to remedy when he starts getting the sniffles. He says nothing knows out a cold like my fire cider tonic. With onions, garlic, ginger, horseradish, cayenne pepper, lemon, blueberry and apple cider vinegar it's sure to add a punch to your head cold!

The Chick Inn
Someone once said that money can't buy happiness, but it can buy chickens and chickens make eggs and breakfast makes me happy!
Hens are born to scratch and peck. Our hens enjoy roaming on fresh grass while foraging on bugs and grubs in chemical free soil. They receive organic feed supplement, as well as sunflower seeds and oyster shells. They do not receive any added hormones or antibiotics. They are raised for the purpose of laying fresh eggs.

Nugget Lodge
We raise to different breeds of meat birds on the farm-the Cornish Cross Broiler and the Rainbow Rangers. Both are put on pasture as soon as they are able, where they can forage and soak up the sunshine. They are given organic supplemental chicken feed and fresh water. All of our meat birds are processed on our farm.
Our Golden Girls
We knew we wanted to produce high quality, rich milk that was fresh from the cow. Therefore, we began our search for the beautiful golden Guernsey cows. The unique qualities of Guernsey milk have always been sought after. Guernsey milk from grass-fed cows has a much higher butterfat and protein content than store-bought milk. The milk has a unique golden color that is high in beta carotene. Guernsey milk is richer in proteins, butterfat, and flavor than store bought milk products. they also produce the A2 Beta Casein protein in their milk. So when you drink our fresh raw milk you get: 12% more protein
33% more vitamin D
25% more vitamin A
30% more cream
15% more calcium
Why is this important?
Omega 3 fatty acids are essential nutrients for the human body, especially for preventing heart disease. It reduces the chances of heart attack and stroke by lowering blood pressure and reducing triglycerides in the bloodstream. It's also an effective anti-inflammatory, which helps treat symptoms of arthritis and asthma. Guernsey milk is known to have three times more Omega 3 than any other milk.
Beta Carotene is a red-orange pigment that is typically found in plants, such as carrots. It's this pigment that gives the Guernsey milk it's beautiful golden color. Beta Carotene is an antioxidant that strengthens the immune system and helps prevent cancer and heart disease. Our bodies convert beta carotene into Vitamin A, which is essential for our eyesight, immune system, and proper function of organs such as our heart, lungs, and kidneys.
Protein is the basic building block for our bodies, providing the structure necessary for the function and growth of all the body's cells, tissues, and organs. Milk plays a key role in muscle-building while providing protein to repair and maintain every other part of the body as well.
Vitamin D is essential for strong bones because, without it, our bodies cannot absorb the calcium and phosphorous that are needed to construct healthy bones. Not only is vitamin D necessary for bone development, but it can also improve the body's muscle function, brain development, cancer-fighting abilities, and immune, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems.
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is an essential vitamin for our bodies and is especially important for the growth and repair for all it's tissues. Vitamin C is also a strong antioxidant, meaning it boosts the body's immune system and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases. This vitamin also reduces the risk of heart disease, increases iron absorption capabilities, and helps to protect memory in aging adults.
Calcium is known to be required for strong, healthy bones, but it is also necessary for the proper function of our heart, muscles, and nervous system. Milk is an excellent source of calcium!
Butterfat is a natural fat that is found in milk. This complex fat in milk is good for one's health as it contains properties that protect the gut from many negative influences. Butterfat is also known to help with weight loss as it makes on feel fuller and when one feels fuller they won't turn to the foods that are full of sugar and carbohydrates.
Our family wants the best, not only for our children, but for your family too. Our A2 Guernsey milk is gentle on the tummy, and it's packed full of nutrients. Once you have tasted our sweet golden Guernsey milk you will never think of milk the same way again.
